Bio – Mona Brandt Arvidson

I have been dancing for over 30 years.  I began with Ballet, Tap and Jazz as a child.  I also was on a competitive gymnastics team for 3 years, and dabbled in figure skating as well.  While I was in college at the University of Maryland getting my BS in Electrical Engineering, I taught Ballet, Tap and Jazz to children and adults.

After graduating college, I worked as an Engineer for the US Naval Research Lab in Washington, DC.  After 5 years, I moved to Houston, Texas, where I worked at the Johnson Space Center.  I began learning Country Western Dance and began teaching and competing as well.  I continued my training in Country, Ballroom and Swing while I was in Houston, taking advantage of the many great instructors there.  I won 2 Country Dance World Championships with my partner Chad Guidry, and 1 with my partner Sam Arvidson.  I also began competing in Line Dance and won 2 World Championships in Line Dance.  I have been fortunate to be able to train with some of the top dance professionals in the country and in the world, including Lynn and Randy Ferguson, Carmen Goodman, Milana Pliner, Hunter and Maria Johnson, Corky Ballas, Michael Weinting, David Appel, Emmanuel Pierre-Antoine, Kasha Kozak, Maria Hansen and many others.  I have also been involved as a part of the United Country Western Dance Council (UCWDC) as an event director and also as Secretary and Business Team Chair.  I am the event director of the UCWDC Arizona Dance Classic, an annual 4-day dance competition (Ballroom, Country and Swing) which will take place the second weekend in August in the Phoenix area.  While in Houston, I attended the University of Houston where I received my Masters degree in Business Administration.

After 17 years in Houston, I moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where I now reside.  I am teaching dance full-time, and looking forward to competing on the UCWDC circuit in the Couples Masters division with my partner, Lonnie Mitchell, and also in the Line Dance Superstars division.   I am also looking forward to realizing my dream of opening my own dance studio.  I am currently planning on opening a studio in the Tempe, Arizona area, in the Spring of 2008.

I want to express thanks to all the wonderful people who have helped me and mentored me along the way in my dance career……
